Minimum Essential Coverage vs. Essential Health
Benefits: Minimum essential coverage is what an individual
needs in order to meet the individual responsibility requirement
under the Affordable Care Act. Essential health benefits include a
set of health care categories that must be covered by certain plans
starting in 2014. Examples of general categories include emergency
services, hospitalization, mental health, pediatric services,
maternity care - and others.
